Approximately 400 offenders from Western Correctional Center for Women in Swannanoa and the Black Mountain Substance Abuse Treatment Center for Women in Black Mountain were temporarily relocated to other state correctional facilities for women.

State correctional and local law enforcement officers are seeking offender Ramone Alston (#1326788), who escaped Tuesday morning while being transported to a medical appointment in Hillsborough. Alston, 30, is a Black male with family and friends in the area. He is serving a life sentence for a 2018 first degree murder conviction in Orange County.  He was housed at Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor. 
Rogers previously served as warden of Dan River Prison Work Farm.
Barnes is responsible for all operations at the facility, which houses approximately 800 male offenders in medium- and minimum-custody housing units.
