Congratulations to North Carolina's newest group of Probation/Parole Officers. The twenty-four officers from Class 10 for 2024 completed their seven-week basic training at the North Carolina Justice Academy in Salemburg. The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction honored the veterans among its staff with an early Veterans Day celebration Wednesday.Governor Roy Cooper joined NC Secretary of Adult Correction Todd Ishee  and Secretary (and retired US Army Lt. Col.) Grier Martin of the NC Department of Military and Veterans’ Affairs in thanking veterans for their service, both to the United States and to NCDAC.

Nearly every week, the 2,000 probation/parole officers of DAC’s Community Supervision conduct field operations and spot-checks to make sure people under supervision are abiding by their conditions. That’s in addition to the officers’ regular daily duties like conducting office and home visits, assisting offenders with community resources and participating in court hearings.The field operations have two main goals – insuring offenders are in compliance and making our communities safer by taking illegal weapons and drugs off our streets.

The NC Department of Adult Correction recognized outstanding Division of Community Supervision employees on July 10 in a celebration at the McKimmon Center at North Carolina State University.Awards were presented at the district, division and department level for Probation/Parole Officer, Chief Probation/Parole Officer, Assistant Judicial District Manager, Judicial District Manager, and awards for Above and Beyond and Heroism. Officials with the Department of Adult Correction have promoted Jamie Williamson to the position of Judicial District Manager (JDM) in Judicial District 13 which covers Bladen, Brunswick and Columbus counties within Judicial Division 2.“Jamie Williamson has worked very hard with dedication and commitment to ensure community safety and oversee our officers who supervise offenders,” said Todd Ishee, secretary for the Department of Adult Correction. “His skills, training and leadership are great assets to the department.”
For nearly a decade NCDAC has offered one-on-one and group peer support services to employees in an effort to help staff be at their best.

This year, the  S.H.I.E.L.D. team has transformed services and service provision to provide improved, confidential mental health counseling, peer support, and outreach services to all NCDAC employees. S.H.I.E.L.D. is an acronym that stands for “support, hope, inclusion, empowerment, loyalty and dedication.”
