The Victims Compensation Program receives an annual appropriation from the North Carolina State Legislature and federal reimbursement of 60% of state dollars paid out the prior year.

The Divison of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice, through prison canteens and Correction Enterprises, also provides a small portion of the program's funding.

Criminal violence affects one in every four American households, costing the U.S. economy approximately $17 billion each year.
