Governor Stein Proposes Critical Needs Budget

During a press conference March 9, 2026,NC Governor Josh Stein announced his Critical Needs Budget, which includes $211 million in critical investments for NCDAC, including pay increases for correctional officers, probation/parole officers, nurses, and behavioral health technician, along with $80 million to eliminate the department’s structural budget shortfall and stabilize operations.

We are grateful to the Governor for including these priorities and look forward to working with legislators to strengthen public safety across NC.
