DEPARTMENT OF MILITARY AND VETERANS AFFAIRS
Military Affairs Division
- It shall be the duty of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to do all of the following:
- (1) Provide active outreach to the United States Department of Defense and the United States Department of Homeland Security and their associated establishments in North Carolina in order to support the military installations and activities in the State, to enhance North Carolina's current military-friendly environment and foster and promote business, technology, transportation, education, economic development, and other efforts in support of the mission, execution, and transformation of the United States government military and national defense activities located in the State.
- (2) Promote the industrial and economic development of localities included in or adjacent to United States government military and national defense activities and those of the State.
- (3) Provide technical assistance and coordination between the State, its political subdivisions, and the United States military and national defense activities within the State of North Carolina.
- (4) Award grants to local governments, State and federal agencies, and private entities at the direction of the Secretary. The number of grants awarded and the level of funding of each grant for each fiscal year shall be contingent upon and determined by funds appropriated for that purpose by the General Assembly.

DMVA Transition Services Division coordinates with federal, state, and local agencies to deliver services and programs designed to assist Servicemembers and their families transition into healthy and productive lives.

Transition Services Division
- Primary Efforts:
- Resource integration, coordination, and connection
- Outreach and education to Veteran and Veteran Connected Communities
- Partners with Veteran Service Officers & Veteran Service Organizations
- Provides a warm handover from social services connection to VA claims
- Offers statewide resources and services as requested
- Triages the Contact emails from DMVA website for appropriate connection
- Researches Veteran Service Organizations for capability and inclusion
- Clarifies the navigation process to unique client needs
- Assists with time-critical care through coordinated services integration
- Serves on statewide councils addressing veteran homelessness, digital access, community re-entry, state government employee policies, and military/veteran family challenges
- Advocates for increased military/veteran benefits legislatively through policy changes
- Represents DMVA in outreach events, programs, panels, etc.
Veterans Services Division
- The NC DMVA is divided into four Veterans Services regions across the state, supported by 12 Veteran Service Centers, a State Service Office in Winston-Salem, Training Officer, Administrative Specialist (DVA PIV), and Headquarters in Raleigh.
State Veterans Homes
North Carolina State Veterans Homes provide “homes” for qualified, NC Veterans. NC Veteran Residents receive around the clock, skilled nursing care and chef prepared, gourmet meals in private or semi-private rooms.

N.C. DEPARTMENT OF MILITARY AND VETERANS AFFAIRS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
In appreciation of the service and sacrifices of North Carolina’s War Veterans, a Four-Year Scholarship Program at North Carolina Approved Schools has been established for qualifying children of certain class or category of Deceased, Disabled, Combat or POW/MIA Veterans.
