An offender at Bertie Correctional Institution has died from injuries sustained as the result of an alleged assault by another offender on Jan. 12, 2024 and law enforcement is investigating.

Eight N.C. Department of Adult Correction facilities, along with the department’s Central Office and the entire Division of Community Supervision, have been awarded full accreditation by the American Correctional Association.
Shannon Thomas Galloway (#0140181) surrendered to local law enforcement after a vehicle pursuit.
American Correctional Association auditors have recommended accreditation be awarded to the Davidson Correctional Center in Lexington, N.C., another step toward full accreditation of the North Carolina prison system.
Rogers previously served as associate warden and acting warden of Wake Correctional, which was idled in June 2022 due to the pandemic and staffing shortages.
Basden previously served as the warden of New Hanover Correctional Center.
Prison emergency response teams and local law enforcement are searching for offender Thomas Swann (#0590816) who left a work detail today in Apex. UPDATE: He was caught after less than eight hours at large.
