Scotland Correctional Institution offender Edward D. Gregory (#0802946) died in an apparent suicide on Monday, April 3, 2023.
He was found unresponsive in his cell around 4:40 a.m. Monday. The prison’s first responders performed lifesaving measures, and EMS was called. He was pronounced deceased at 5:09 a.m.
Law enforcement was notified of the death and is investigating, as is common in these circumstances. The Department of Adult Correction is cooperating fully in the investigation and is also conducting its own investigation.
Gregory, 36, was convicted of being a habitual felon, as well as larceny and assault with a deadly weapon charges in Haywood County on Jan. 14, 2022.
