Offender Dustin M. Grimes (#1410218) has died of an apparent suicide.
He was found in his cell at Central Prison on Oct. 24. The prison's medical team performed advanced lifesaving measures, and EMS transported him to a local hospital. Family made the decision to withdraw life support, and he was pronounced dead at 4:25 p.m. on Nov. 1.
Law enforcement and the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner have been notified of the death and are investigating, as required in these circumstances. The Department of Adult Correction is cooperating fully and conducting its own internal investigation.
Grimes, 26, was moved on Oct. 23 to pretrial detention at Central Prison by court order at the request of the Wilkes County Detention Center.
