Piedmont Correctional offender dies in apparent suicide

Piedmont Correctional Institution offender Christopher Brandon Propst (#1073182) has died of an apparent suicide.

Propst, 44, was found unresponsive around 4:45 p.m. Nov. 14. Prison medical staff performed life-saving procedures, and EMS transported him to a local hospital. Family made the decision to withdraw life support, and he was pronounced deceased at 5:43 a.m. Saturday.

Law enforcement and the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner have been notified and are investigating, as required in these circumstances. The Department of Adult Correction is cooperating fully and conducting its own investigation.

Propst was arrested Nov. 13 in Catawba County and returned to prison  for parole violation. He had been convicted in Lincoln County of drug possession in July 2022 and in Catawba County of breaking and entering in November 2022. He had an estimated nine months remaining on his sentence.
