UPDATE: Missing Gaston Correctional offender captured in Bessemer City

UPDATED: Offender Shannon Thomas Galloway (#0140181) was captured around 6:21 p.m. by Gaston County sheriff's deputies and Bessemer City police.

Galloway, 51, climbed over a fence and fled from Gaston Correctional Center eight hours earlier, around 10:30 a.m. He allegedly stole a vehicle from Walmart in Gastonia, which local law enforcement spotted in Bessemer City. Following a pursuit, he surrendered at East  Virginia Avenue and North 8th Street in Bessemer City.

Galloway was serving a two-year sentence at Gaston Correctional for larceny. He had been scheduled for release on May 8, 2024. He will face additional charges, including escape.

Galloway is a white male who stands 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 167 pounds. He has blond hair with blue eyes and has tattoos on both arms, right leg and chest. He is from the Kings Mountain area of Cleveland County.

Prison emergency response teams and local law enforcement are searching today for offender Shannon Thomas Galloway (#0140181) in Gastonia.

Galloway is a white male who stands 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 167 pounds. He has blond hair with blue eyes and has tattoos on both arms, right leg and chest.

He was observed climbing over the fence at Gaston Correctional Center around 10:30 this morning.
