UPDATE: Missing offender found in Randolph County

An offender who stole a pickup and fled a work location in Raleigh this afternoon has been captured.
 
Randolph County sheriff's deputies found the pickup around 5:10 p.m. on Ramsey Julian Road in Liberty. Offender Ronnie Dwayne East (#0759613) was captured in nearby woods.
 
East will be transported to another correctional facility. He will face escape and vehicle theft charges.
 
East was a minimum-custody offender at Wake Correctional Center, serving a four-year sentence for breaking and entering and larceny in Randolph County. He had a projected release date of July 2026.
 
His work assignment was at a N.C. Department of Adult Correction warehouse on Leagan Drive, where he was found to be missing around 3:15 p.m. Friday.

Prison emergency response teams and local law enforcement are searching for offender Ronnie Dwayne East (#0759613), who left a work location in Raleigh this afternoon.

East, 41, is a minimum-custody offender serving a four-year sentence at Wake Correctional Center for breaking and entering and larceny in Randolph County. He was scheduled for release in July 2026.

East is a white male who stands 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 179 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes and tattoos on both arms, legs, chest, back and stomach. He was wearing prison-issue green pants and shirt.

He was discovered missing around 3:15 p.m. Friday from his job in an Adult Correction warehouse at 200 Leagan Drive. A search revealed he had stolen a state-owned 2023 white, four-door Ford F-150 pickup with no plates from the site.
