Officials with the NC Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) have promoted Lewis Adams to Division Director in Judicial Division 1, effective May 27.
In his new position, Adams will oversee Community Supervision in the 1st Judicial Division, which covers 32 counties in the eastern and coastal portions of the state.
“I know that Lewis will continue his commitment to public safety as he steps into this new role,” said Leslie Cooley Dismukes, secretary for the Department of Adult Correction. “His dedication and passion for this work will undoubtably be the foundation for the continuing team effort in his district.”
“I’m pleased to promote Lewis to this leadership position,” said Tracy K. Lee, deputy secretary for Community Supervision. “With more than 30 years of service to Community Supervision, he has worked with great dedication and perseverance. His leadership skills have prepared him well for the job head.”
Adams began his career with adult correction in 1992 as a probation/parole officer in Richmond County. During his career he has served as an intensive probation/parole officer in Durham, and New Hanover counties. He was promoted to chief probation officer in New Hanover County in 2003. In 2010, Adams was promoted to judicial district manager in District 4, serving Duplin, Sampson, and Jones counties. In 2011, he was promoted to assistant division director of Division 2.
A native of Lumberton, Adams is a graduate of UNC-Pembroke, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. He also graduated from the NCDAC Correctional Leadership Development Program and is a general instructor and firearms instructor for NCDAC.
