Hemingway named warden of Western Correctional Center for Women Previously, she served as associate warden of WCCW.

Julah Hemingway has been appointed as the new warden of Western Correctional Center for Women.
Ms. Hemingway most recently served as associate warden for custody and operations at Western Correctional.
"Julah brings experience and proven leadership to a facility and a region that was greatly affected by Hurricane Helene," said Leslie Cooley Dismukes, secretary of the N.C. Department of Adult Correction. “Warden Hemingway will ensure that WCCW will build back stronger alongside their neighbors.”
As warden, Hemingway has responsibility for all operations at WCCW, which houses more than 350 women in minimum custody. WCCW offers numerous rehabilitative and vocational programs, including an associate's degree program in partnership with Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.
Hemingway began her career in 2007 as a correctional officer at Craggy Correctional Center in Asheville. She transferred to WCCW and earned a promotion to sergeant in 2009, lieutenant in 2015 and security compliance auditor in 2022. Later that year, she was promoted to associate warden at WCCW.
She holds an Advanced Certificate in criminal justice from the N.C. Criminal Justice Commission's Training and Standards Division.
