In recognition of the important public service provided by the state’s probation/parole officers, Gov. Josh Stein has proclaimed July 20-26, 2025, as Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Officers’ Week in North Carolina.

“Probation and parole officers are dedicated public servants who serve our state daily and keep our communities safer,” said Governor Josh Stein. “I appreciate their commitment not only this week, but every week for doing their part to make North Carolina safer and stronger.”

“I am very grateful for the commitment and leadership shown by our probation/parole officers,” said Department of Adult Correction Secretary Leslie Cooley Dismukes. “Every day, our officers go the extra mile to help make our communities safer and to provide structure and support to our returning citizens and assist them with completing their probation, parole or post-release supervision.”

More than 2,000 probation and parole officers supervise approximately 76,000 individuals in North Carolina who are serving probation, parole or post-release supervision. They also work with community agencies and local reentry partners to provide services and support to formerly incarcerated individuals.

“Our officers work tirelessly to promote public safety, support rehabilitation and steer those they supervise in a positive direction, said Tracy K. Lee, Deputy Secretary for the Division of Community Supervision. “Helping people be successful means fewer victims, less crime and safer communities. Please join me in thanking them for all they do.”
