Dear News Editor:
The N.C. Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission is notifying you that it is currently conducting an investigation into the above-referenced case for possible parole. This notice is being sent to you in order for the Commission to comply with North Carolina G.S. 15A-1371(3).
Information gathered during the investigation from persons for and against parole of the individual, as well as the facts of the case, will be considered by the Commission in making its decision. Upon completion of the investigation, the Commission will render their final decision and you will be notified within ten days of that decision. The Commission is required to review all offenders eligible for parole on an annual basis.
The state’s current sentencing law, Structured Sentencing, eliminates parole for crimes committed on or after October 1, 1994. However, the Commission has the responsibility of paroling offenders who were sentenced under previous sentencing guidelines.
If you have questions concerning this matter, please contact the Commission at (919) 716-3010.
