Officials with the NC Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) have promoted Ed Hummel to the position of Judicial District Manager (JDM) in Judicial District 25, effective Nov. 17.
In his new position, Hummel will oversee Community Supervision operations in Burke, Caldwell and Catawba counties. The district includes 90 probation/parole officers and staff who supervise more than 2,500 individuals sentenced to probation, parole or post-release supervision.
“Ed Hummel’s leadership is clearly demonstrated in his dedication to building strong teams committed to creating safer communities,” said Leslie Cooley Dismukes, secretary for the Department of Adult Correction. “His experience with supervising challenging cases will be a great asset to District 25.”
“I am very pleased to promote Ed Hummel,” said Tracy K. Lee, chief deputy secretary for Community Supervision. “His steady leadership and dedication in Division 4 makes him a perfect fit for this new management role.”
Hummel has 16 years of experience with the department. He began his career in 2008 in District 26, Mecklenburg County. In 2017, he was promoted to Chief Probation/Parole Officer (CPPO) in District 29, McDowell County. In 2024, He was promoted to the Assistant Judicial District Manager (AJDM) in District 27, Gaston County.
He has served on various committees and boards, as well as a sustainability team trainer in Motivational Interviewing, Division 4 sex offender onboarding, and Static-99, a risk prediction instrument used in the supervision of sex offenders. He has previous experience as a probation officer in Florida and Virginia.
Hummel is a graduate of Westfield State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He has also completed the Frontline Leadership Program and is currently enrolled in the Management Development for Future Leaders Program.
