Escapee Roy Burgess (#0900200) was captured this morning by agents from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and deputies from the York County Sheriff's Office in York County, SC.

Burgess, 42, escaped Sunday afternoon from Lincoln Correctional Center, a minimum-security prison in Lincolnton, NC.

Burgess was serving a one-to-two-year sentence for larceny with a release date in January 2027 and has a record of low-level felonies going back nearly 20 years. He will remain incarcerated in South Carolina while he awaits extradition proceedings to be returned to North Carolina.

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation continue to investigate the escape.

"We are grateful to our partners at SLED, York County, the NC SBI and the Gastonia Police Department for their assistance and a quick resolution to this escape," said Secretary Leslie Cooley Dismukes of the NC Department of Adult Correction. "Strong partnerships like these are critical to our operations and to keeping communities safe."
