Edward Castelo has been named as the new warden of Wake Correctional Center. Castelo previously served as a captain and facility compliance specialist for North Carolina Correctional Center for Women. “Warden Castelo has demonstrated a remarkable capacity for leadership and for paying attention to details,” Secretary Dismukes said. “Having worked much of his career at Wake Correctional, he knows it well — from its security and operations requirements, to the needs of the people in custody there, who will be re-entering their communities shortly.” Wake Correctional Center on Rock Quarry Rd. in Raleigh is a designated re-entry facility for people with two years or less remaining on their sentences. It is a minimum-custody facility that currently houses about 400 men, most of whom leave and return each day for jobs in the surrounding community, either on work release for private employers or assisting local and state government agencies. Castelo began his career as a correctional officer at Wake Correctional in 2008, earning promotions to sergeant and lieutenant. He transferred to NCCIW in 2022 and advanced to captain before accepting the compliance specialist position. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Southern New Hampshire University. |
