Lorie Goins to lead Community Supervision Operations in District 23

Officials with the NC Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) have promoted Lorie Goins to the position of Judicial District Manager (JDM) in Judicial District 23, effective May 11.

In her new position, Goins will oversee Community Supervision operations in Wilkes, Yadkin, Ashe, and Alleghany counties with a staff of 41 people who supervise more than 1,000 individuals sentenced to probation, parole or post-release supervision.

“Lorie Goins has more than a decade of impressive training and instructor credentials that will be an excellent asset to her team,” said Leslie Cooley Dismukes, secretary for the Department of Adult Correction. “Her skills and experience will lead to even greater public safety and help those her staff supervises improve their lives.”

“I am very pleased to promote Lorie Goins,” said Tracy K. Lee, chief deputy secretary for Community Supervision. “Her 25 years of dedicated service to Community Supervision will bring invaluable leadership to District 23.”

Lorie Goins began her career as a Probation Parole Officer in Iredell County in 2001. In 2013, she was hired as a Correctional Training Instructor and was responsible for teaching all in-service training in Division Three. In 2014, she was hired as the Field Training Officer in District 22 and transferred to become the Division Three Field Training Officer in 2015. In 2016, she was promoted to Chief Probation Parole Officer in Wilkes County.

She obtained her General Instructor Certification in 2012 and is a certified instructor for Firearms, Control Restraint Defense Techniques (CRDT), and an Axon Taser Instructor. She is also an NCDAC Evidence Based Practices (EBP) Core Skills Development Instructor and an NCDAC Motivational Interviewing Instructor. She served as the North Carolina Probation-Parole Officer Association (NCPPA) state president in 2011.

Goins graduated in 2000 from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology.
