An offender housed at Scotland Correctional Institution died Thursday morning after being assaulted by another offender.
Scotland County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the State Bureau of Investigation, is investigating the death of Brian Alexander (#1727009).
The incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday.
The Department of Adult Correction is cooperating with the law enforcement investigation and conducting its own internal review.
