Jesse Espinoza (#1432031) died Monday at Greene Correctional Institution in an apparent suicide.
He was found unresponsive in his cell around 9:02 p.m. Prison officers and medical staff responded, and EMS was called, but he was pronounced deceased shortly after. He was admitted to the state prison system on Feb. 3, 2025, from Wilkes County.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office and State Bureau of Investigation were notified of the death and are investigating, as is common in these circumstances. The Department of Adult Correction is cooperating fully in the investigation and is also conducting its own internal investigation.
