A three day initiative dubbed Operation Zero Hour resulted in the arrest of 123 individuals and the service of 170 warrants charging individuals for various violent crimes including murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping, sexual assault, child molestation, and parole/probation violations. Beginning in the pre-dawn hours on Tuesday February 23rd, law enforcement officers in Robeson County hit the streets in search of some of the area’s most dangerous offenders.
Governor McCrory is urging residents to closely monitor weather forecasts and follow direction from emergency officials as severe thunderstorms and strong winds move through the state throughout the day. Approximately four dozen public school systems and three universities already have announced early dismissal (see latest listing below). Be sure to monitor local media outlets for updates.
As storms continue to move across the state, Governor Pat McCrory is cautioning residents to remain alert during the overnight hours when storms can be most deadly. He urged North Carolinians to keep their mobile phones charged and weather radios on and close by so they could continue to receive tornado or severe storm warnings through the night.
Governor Pat McCrory has notified the state’s seven Urban Search and Rescue Teams and seven hazardous materials Regional Response Teams to be on standby in preparation for severe weather that is predicted to roll across the state on Wednesday. Meteorologists today warned that portions of North Carolina will see severe thunderstorms Wednesday. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for damaging wind gusts of 70+ miles per hour, up to 1-2” hail and the possibility of one or more tornadoes across much of the central and eastern parts of the state.

The New London and Tarheel Challenge Academy cadets used their newly refurbished bus Feb. 12 when cadets traveled to Raleigh to visit the state legislative building and the Museum of Natural Sciences.
Ten military veterans are among the newest members of the State Highway Patrol thanks to Governor Pat McCrory’s N.C. Military Pipeline hiring initiative. The Patrol graduated 29 cadets today during a ceremony held at Colonial Baptist Church in Raleigh. The State Highway Patrol attracts veterans to its ranks because of the similar rank structure.
