What: The 11th annual Reindeer Dash for Cash 10 Miler & 5k run. A patriotic, Christmas-themed run offers a custom designed finisher medal and age group awards. The Reindeer Dash for Cash is a fundraising event to benefit the Captain Christopher Cash Memorial Foundation of NC, Inc. All proceeds are awarded as college scholarships at East Carolina University, Pitt Community College, NCNG Association Educational Foundation, and N.C. Wesleyan College.

Governor Pat McCrory has declared November 29 through December 5 as Winter Weather Preparedness Week and is urging North Carolinians to update their emergency supplies kits and review emergency plans.

Two members of the State Highway Patrol, Lt. Jeff Gordon and Trooper Chris Matos, were honored Nov. 17 at the Governor’s Awards of Excellence ceremony. Lt. Gordon received his award in the category of Efficiency and Innovation for using the Highway Patrol’s driving simulator to teach teens about distracted driving. Trooper Matos received his award in the category of Safety and Heroism for rescuing a mother and her two children from a frigid creek when their car slid off an icy road.

An anonymous tip led to the arrest of a Knightdale man today suspected of striking and killing a pedestrian on Friday, Oct. 30,  while he walked along Poole Road. Wake County troopers worked tirelessly following up on leads with the hopes of bringing closure to a grieving mother.
At approximately 4:23 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, Cameron Pipkin, 23, of 6528 NC27, Coats, was traveling south on Red Hill Church Road near Tobacco Barn Lane just east of Lillington when he traveled off onto the right shoulder striking James McLeod, 14, of 2688 Ashe Avenue, Dunn. Mr. McLeod was walking south along the shoulder of the roadway when he was struck from behind. As a result of the collision, McLeod died at the scene.
