BACKGROUND:
The Crime Victims Compensation Commission reimburses victims of violent crime for medical bills, lost wages, out-of-pocket expenses and other losses related to their victimization. At this meeting, the commission will hear 38 claims totaling $780,000.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has appointed North Carolina Community Corrections director Anne Precythe to the National Institute of Corrections Advisory Board for a three year term. Precythe will serve on the advisory board until September 2017.
Precythe has served as the state’s Community Corrections director since March 2013. She oversees a workforce of more than 2,500 probation/parole officers, managers and support staff who the supervise more than 105,000 offenders on probation, parole or post-release supervision.
Eight state police and highway patrol agencies this weekend will once again engage in Operation Border to Border, a coordinated traffic safety enforcement initiative targeting approximately 791 miles of U.S. Route 15 and 124 miles of U.S. Route 17 in the State of Georgia that parallels I-95.
US Route 15, which originates in Walterboro, S.C., and ends in Corning, N.Y., is a heavily-traveled thoroughfare for summer vacationers and for those attempting to avoid congested interstates serving seven of the eight states.

The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Kenneth Lassiter as deputy director for operations for the state prison system. Lassiter will work along with Deputy Director Gwen Norville, who will assume the title of deputy director for administration. Both deputy directors will report to prisons Director George Solomon.

Kenneth Lassiter has been named director of the state prison system’s Central Region Office effective June 1. In his new position, Lassiter will oversee operations of 12 male prisons located in an area from the Triangle north to the Virginia border.
