RALEIGH -- When Sanford Correctional Center was chosen to be the first state prison to seek American Correctional Association accreditation last year, Sgt. Mindil Kennedy-Lindsey was tapped as the liaison.
She worked seven days a week including working “ridiculous hours into the night, and on holidays,” said Sanford Warden Melanie Shelton.

RALEIGH — Lucketchia Boston, associate warden for operations at Tyrrell Prison Work Farm in Columbia, won the state prison system’s 2021 Manager Award.
Boston accepted the award May 6 alongside 10 other Prisons honorees in various categories. The ceremony coincided with national Correctional Officers and Correctional Employees Week.
RALEIGH — Cindy Haynes has won the state prison system’s 2021 Programs Award.
Haynes, program director at Marion Correctional Institution, accepted the award Thursday alongside 10 other Prisons honorees in various categories. The ceremony coincided with national Correctional Officers and Correctional Employees Week.
“She represents the best of our best from across the state,” said Commissioner of Prisons Todd Ishee. “Our award winners are hard-working, innovative and deeply committed to their jobs, their colleagues and to the care of the men and women in our custody.”
RALEIGH — Correctional Officer Dawnelle Gee of Caledonia Correctional Institution was named the state prison system’s top new employee.
Gee accepted the 2021 Newcomer Award on May 6 alongside 10 other Prisons honorees in various categories. The ceremony coincided with national Correctional Officers and Correctional Employees Week.

For his extraordinary and proactive efforts to battle the pandemic, the warden at Nash Correctional Institution, Drew Stanley, has been named the warden of the year in North Carolina.
“Drew Stanley has done amazing work over the past year and has truly earned this award,” said Todd Ishee, Commissioner of Prisons. “He has been visionary, precautionary and effective in keeping the health and safety of his staff and the men in his custody as his top priority.”
ALE special agents recently concluded an investigation resulting in multiple arrests and seizures.
In April of 2021, ALE received information of an illegal bar operating out of Roaring River. Special agents found the Brews Brothers Bar and Grill, located at 2055 Greenhorn Road, openly sold alcoholic beverages without first obtaining the applicable ABC permits. Special agents began an investigation into Brews Brothers Bar and Grill, and observed employees sold malt beverages to patrons on numerous occasions.
The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Stephen Jacobs as the new warden of Tabor Correctional Institution in Tabor City.
Jacobs, 53, had been the warden at Lumberton Correctional Institution in Lumberton since 2020.
