The State Highway Patrol highlighted the promotion of 71 sworn and 12 civilian members today during a private ceremony held at Colonial Baptist Church in Cary. The event was conducted in celebration of those who received a promotion throughout 2020.  The ceremony began with an invocation provided by Pastor Steve Stadtmiller and the singing of the national anthem by Sergeant Brent M. Tyler. Remarks were provided by Col. Glenn M. McNeill, Jr. who commended each promotee on their newly assigned rank.  

A Mountain View Correctional Institution offender with pre-existing medical conditions, who tested positive for COVID-19, has died at a hospital. “His death is saddening, and we continue to work hard to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 in our prisons,” said Todd Ishee, Commissioner of Prisons. “The health and safety of the staff and the offender population is our top priority.” The offender tested positive for COVID-19 on Oct. 15 He was hospitalized on Oct. 22. His condition worsened, and he died on Nov. 1.

The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice is actively seeking an offender serving a portion of her active sentence outside of prison who walked away from her residential location in Raleigh. The offender was participating in the Extending the Limits of Confinement (ELC) initiative.

His positive test result was received the next day. His condition worsened and he died on Oct. 28.

RALEIGH - The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice is actively seeking an offender serving a portion of his active sentence outside of prison who walked away from his residential location in Charlotte. The offender was participating in the Extending the Limits of Confinement (ELC) initiative. 

Residents in a Maxton neighborhood are hoping that a recent judge’s order will help restore peace in their community.    After years of ongoing criminal activity, which negatively affected local residents, a Superior Court Judge entered an order restricting use and activities on the property at 178 Jefferson Road in Maxton.   

An offender participating in Extending the Limits of Confinement (ELC) who walked away from his residence has been apprehended. Charles J. Williams’ ELC status was revoked due to new felony charges. Williams was serving an active sentence for two counts of Habitual Breaking & Entering and seven counts of Felony Breaking & Entering and Obtaining Property by False Pretense. He had a projected release date of Nov. 29, 2020. Williams was arrested and is currently in custody in the Brunswick County jail.

The offender had been participating in the Extending the Limits of Confinement (ELC) initiative. His ELC staus was revoked due to a pending felony charge. 

The State of North Carolina and FEMA have approved $3.18 million to reimburse the North Carolina Department of Transportation for Hurricane Florence-related road and culvert repair in Wilson County. The grant brings the total to more than $61 million to reimburse NCDOT for Hurricane Florence-related expenses. FEMA’s total share for the projects is more than $45 million and the state’s share is more than $16 million. 

A Burlington store owner surrendered his ABC permits to ALE after a shooting occurred in the store parking lot.   On Friday, October 9, 2020, officers with the Burlington Police Department responded to Joes Shopwell Mini Mart, 1204 Apple Street, for a physical disturbance and shots fired. ALE special agents found the shooting stemmed from a confrontation between several customers and the female store clerk after she refused to sell them tobacco products without a valid form of identification. The incident escalated from a physical fight to a shooting.
