
Tammera Hill brings over 21 years of experience in state government to her role as Chief Operating Officer for the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC), a position she assumed in January 2025. As second-in-command for the agency, she is responsible for overseeing its day-to-day operations. She oversees seventeen divisions including areas ranging from Communications and Institutions to Community Supervision and Financial Services.
Prior to joining NCDAC, Ms. Hill served as Deputy General Counsel for North Carolina Department of Public Safety. She also held various roles at the Department of Justice, beginning her career there as an Assistant Attorney General and advancing to Section Head of both the Law Enforcement Liaison and Public Safety Sections. Her legal work primarily focused on personnel and certification matters, as well as defending state law enforcement and correctional officers in state and federal courts.
In her most recent role, Ms. Hill was the lead legal advisor to the law enforcement divisions of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety providing guidance on policy, personnel issues, and legal risk management. She also conducted legal training for entry level officers, troopers, agents, supervisors, and command staff.
Ms. Hill is a graduate of the University of North Carolina and UNC School of Law. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. And when she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, singing, theater and commercial acting, and playing tennis and golf.
