The death of North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women offender Rachel Mobley (#0521820) in March was a suicide, according to the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which issued its determination on Oct. 30.
American Correctional Association auditors have recommended accreditation be awarded to Hyde Correctional Institution in Swan Quarter, another step toward full accreditation of the North Carolina prison system. Hyde Correctional is the 23rd NCDAC location recommended for accreditation.

Yesterday evening, Wisezah Buckman was convicted for the October 12, 2017, murder of Correctional Officer Justin Smith, Correctional Officer Wendy Shannon, Correction Enterprise Manager Veronica Darden, and Maintenance Mechanic Geoffrey Howe, who were all attacked and killed while performing their duties as public servants at Pasquotank Correctional.
Congratulations to North Carolina's newest group of Probation/Parole Officers. Twenty-two officers from "Class 9" and 21 officers from "Class 9A" (listed below) completed their seven-week basic training at the North Carolina Justice Academy in Salemburg. The officers were awarded their badges after being sworn in by Superior Court Judge Robby Hicks.
