With great thanks for the vital public service provided by the state’s probation/parole officers, Governor Roy Cooper has proclaimed July 16-22, 2023, as Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Officers’ Week in North Carolina.

“Our probation and parole officers play a critical role in keeping our communities safe,” said Governor Cooper. “I’m grateful for their dedication to protect our state and help those under supervision successfully return home.”

“The job of a probation and parole officer can be very challenging,” said Department of Adult Correction Secretary Todd Ishee. “Our officers wear many hats – those of law enforcement, counselor, coach and mentor.  Helping people successfully complete their supervision means fewer victims, less crime and safety communities.”

More than 2,000 probation and parole officers supervise almost 80,000 individuals in North Carolina who are serving probation, parole or post-release supervision.  They also work with community agencies and local reentry councils to provide services and support to formerly incarcerated individuals.

“The work of our officers does not always garner significant public attention, but they are vitally important and I am very grateful for their selfless service,” said Division of Community Supervision Deputy Secretary Tracy K. Lee.  “They are always ready and willing to assist in time of need, be it cases of natural disaster, civil unrest or assisting local, state and federal law enforcement partners.  I am very proud of these great professionals.”
