Thousands of people across North Carolina have gotten calls from individuals claiming to be Internal Revenue Service employees, according to the State Bureau of Investigation. The callers claim someone at the residence owes money to the IRS for unpaid taxes. The callers threaten to have the person arrested and taken to jail unless the taxes are paid immediately, often resulting in a credit or debit card transaction over the phone.

In the 2015 Army Communities of Excellence competition the North Carolina National Guard placed third in the silver category. This year, the NCNG has been selected to compete in the gold category with three other states. A second Siler City man was arrested today for his role in the homicide of Esau Abraham Brenes. Francisco Rivas Galves-Huezo, of Siler City was previously charged for his role in the homicide.
Arnold Jaramillo Lopez, 16, of Siler City was indicted by a Chatham County grand jury and served with warrants today. He is charged with First Degree Murder and Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. Lopez is a known associate of Galves-Huezo, who is also known as Francisco Antonio Rivas.
The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Hubert Corpening as the new administrator at Marion Correctional Institution.
Corpening is a 27-year corrections employee who has worked at Marion CI since it opened in 1995.
