The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice is actively seeking an offender serving a portion of her active sentence outside of prison who has absconded from her residential location in Asheville. The offender was participating in the Extending the Limits of Confinement (ELC) initiative.

The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Tom Brickhouse as the new warden of the Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Elizabeth City. Brickhouse, 49, had been the warden at Hyde Correctional in Swan Quarter since 2019.

On Monday, June 21, 2021, Superior Court Judge Douglas B. Sasser signed a consent judgment for a Chapter 19 Nuisance Abatement action against David Lamont Jones, the property owner of 205 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Whiteville. The property sits directly across from Central Middle School and has affected school activities for years.

Today Governor Roy Cooper announced that he signed an Executive Order to extend a variety of measures currently in place to respond to the COVID-19 Pandemic until July 30. “We are seeing tremendous improvement with fewer cases, hospitalizations, deaths and safety restrictions, but this is no time to hang up a “Mission Accomplished” banner in our fight against the pandemic,” said Gov. Cooper. “We are laser focused on getting more shots in arms, boosting our economy and protecting unvaccinated people from the virus and this Executive Order is essential for those efforts.” 

Offender Lamorris W. Rivers (#0830041) died Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Central Prison after an apparent suicide. He was found unresponsive in his cell around 5 p.m. The prison’s first responders performed life-saving measures until local paramedics arrived and also worked to resuscitate the offender. He was pronounced deceased at approximately 5:16 p.m.
