Sylvia Crumpler is a 28-year veteran of state government in human resources. She most recently served the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services as its Human Resources Director prior to joining the NC Department of Adult Correction in 2023.
As the NCDAC Human Resources Director, Crumpler oversees the areas of classification and compensation, salary administration, talent acquisition, staff development, performance management, employee relations, equal employment opportunity, HR data analytics, benefits and workplace safety and health.
In 1994, she began her human resources career in the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Youth Services. In 1995, she began working for the DHHS Division of Mental Health, Development Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services, as its statewide recruiter. In 1999, Crumpler joined the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention in Employee Relations and later as its Assistant Human Resources Director. In 2005, she returned to the DHHS Division of Mental Health, Development Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services, as its Human Resources Manager, and then moved to DHHS’s Murdoch Developmental Center as its Human Resources Manager.
Crumpler is a 1991 graduate of East Carolina University, earning her bachelor’s in psychology.
