Update The State Highway Patrol has identified the driver involved in Sunday’s collision on US 70 near La Grange. The driver involved is Dylan Thomas Smith, 22, of La Grange .  Mr. Smith will be charged with Failing to Slow or Change Lanes for an Authorized Emergency Vehicle on a Multi-Lane Roadway , also referred to as the “Move Over” law.  The violation is a misdemeanor for causing personal injury or property damage greater than $500.
Escaped inmate Kristopher McNeil is behind bars at the Davidson County Jail. Several citizens recognized him from his photo in media reports and called law enforcement. Davidson County deputies picked McNeil up walking along old Highway 52 near Hickory Tree Road near the Davidson/Forsyth county line just before 11 pm Sunday. Prisons will pick McNeil up and he will be taken to Central Prison in Raleigh.
The Department of Pubic Safety’s Office of Victim Services conducted the fifth of six regional training sessions today for DPS staff, Victim Witness legal assistants from district attorney offices and victim services program providers. The North Carolina Statewide Automated Victims Assistance Notification (NCSAVAN) administrator and staff presented comprehensive training focused on notifying victims of status changes of offenders.

The 41 teens who opted to spend a week at the State Highway Patrol’s summer camp learned to push their mental and physical boundaries. One student said, “I learned more in this week than I have in my 18 years in school.” The 22 nd Student Trooper Program started Sunday, June 14 and ended Friday, June 19 with a  graduation program.  Each day, the summer camp started at 5 a.m. with physical training and ended at 10 p.m. with lights out.
Graduates of Class 44 completed the 22-week resident Tar Heel Challenge Academy program and celebrated joyously during their graduation ceremony at the Sampson County Agri-Exposition Center here, June 12. “This is the happiest day of my life every time my parents told me they were proud of me, I never really believed it until now,” said Nathaniel Wilson, Class 44 Tar Heel Challenge Academy honor graduate. “I felt like I would never accomplish something, now I have something to be proud of.”
