UPDATE: Escaped inmate Brandon Brim was captured at about 2 a.m. Monday in Winston Salem by Wake Forest University Police as he was attempting to break into cars. Corrections and law enforcement officers are seeking inmate Brandon Brim, a minimum-custody inmate, who escaped from Forsyth Correctional Center in Winston-Salem around 10 p.m. tonight. Brim, 28, is white male, serving approximately 7 years for habitual breaking and entering.  He may attempt to travel to Davidson or Randolph counties or seek assistance from people he knows in those areas.
A new correctional cadet program that leads to a career path with the North Carolina Department of Public  Safety is launching in Bertie County Schools, developed jointly by the school system, community leaders, the Governor’s Office and the Department of Public Safety.
Governor Pat McCrory signed House Bill 371 which will allow designated members of the North Carolina National Guard to carry concealed weapons in public facilities such as recruiting centers and armories. “We must fulfill our obligation to protect those who protect us,” Governor McCrory said. “This law will give the National Guard the tools they need to keep themselves, and the public, safe.”
The North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement's District Office in Raleigh received numerous complaints from the public about illegal drug activity and alcohol violations occurring at Walnut Creek Amphitheater, an outlet in Raleigh that is licensed by the N.C. Alcoholic Beverage Commission. In response to the complaints, ALE conducted a special enforcement operation Aug. 14, and arrested 65 people on 115 charges (25 felonies).
North Carolina Air National Guard airmen and a C-130 aircraft based at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport here have been ordered to California at the request of federal authorities to support wildland forest fire fighting efforts there. An aircrew from the 145th Airlift Wing departed yesterday to support the fire-fighting effort operating from McClellan Air Tanker Base near Sacramento, Calif.
Two people face a September court date for illegally providing alcohol to a 19-year-old who is hospitalized in Pitt County with serious head injuries from crashing a vehicle, according to North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement. ALE charged Robert Digges, 31, of Washington, with aiding and abetting the possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21 by making a beer purchase for him. Jessica Alligood, 27, of Washington, was charged with aiding and abetting the consumption of alcohol by an underage person in her home.
On Tuesday, August 4, Rep. Virginia Foxx of North Carolina’s 5th District presented Trooper Brett Bush of Ashe County with the Purple Heart, a medal given to members of the military wounded or killed by enemy action or in action against the enemy. On November 26, 2010, during his third tour while serving in the U.S. Marine Corp, Bush was wounded in Afghanistan. Bush served eight years in the Corp rising to the rank of sergeant before joining the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in January 2015 where he is currently assigned to Forsyth County.

Greg Lusk, the adjutant general of the North Carolina National Guard, met with soldiers of Multinational Battle Group-East and talked about the bond between the Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve, during a July 17-19 visit to Camp Bondsteel and other military installations in Kosovo.
State Representatives Jamie Boles, Pat Hurley and Allen McNeill joined Department of Public Safety Secretary Frank Perry and other officials in a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 31 for a new public safety training center in Moore County. The North Carolina General Assembly allocated $10.4 million to renovate 14 of 24 buildings of the former juvenile facility, Samarcand Manor, and build a much-needed firearms training range.
Janet Bundy, a 19-year corrections veteran, has been named as the new superintendent at Carteret Correctional Center in Newport. Bundy has served as the assistant superintendent at Carteret CC for the past four years.  She began her corrections career in 1996 as a correctional officer at Craven Correctional Institution in Vanceboro.
