The North Carolina Air National Guard promoted Sanford resident Clarence Ervin to the rank of brigadier general becoming the first African American general officer in the N.C. Air Guard's 67-year history. Ervin pinned on the rank during a ceremony at the North Carolina National Guard Joint Force Headquarters here. "I am so proud, it is historic," said Army Maj. Gen. Greg Lusk, adjutant general of North Carolina. The crowd of friends, family, NCNG soldiers and Airmen turned a military ceremony into a celebration of service and faith.

Governor Pat McCrory and First Lady Ann McCrory are encouraging North Carolinians to take additional steps to ensure their pets are safe this winter. “For Ann and I, pets are part of our family, and they need extra care when temperatures drop or the state is covered in snow, sleet or ice,” said Governor McCrory.

What: The 11th annual Reindeer Dash for Cash 10 Miler & 5k run. A patriotic, Christmas-themed run offers a custom designed finisher medal and age group awards. The Reindeer Dash for Cash is a fundraising event to benefit the Captain Christopher Cash Memorial Foundation of NC, Inc. All proceeds are awarded as college scholarships at East Carolina University, Pitt Community College, NCNG Association Educational Foundation, and N.C. Wesleyan College.
