Community Supervision

  1. Home

The Division of Community Supervision provides probation, parole and post-release supervision for individuals returning to their communities after serving their sentences. More than 2,000 probation/parole officers serve across the state, with offices in every county, supervising more than 84,000 individuals living in North Carolina communities.

Probation

Probation is a term of court ordered supervision in the community in lieu of incarceration.

Parole

Parole is the discretionary early release from prison which is accompanied by supervision in the community. Only certain offenders convicted under older sentencing laws are eligible for parole.

Post-Release Supervision

Post-release supervision is a mandatory term of supervision in the community after release from prison. This applies to offenders convicted under current sentencing laws.

Confinement in Response to Violation

Confinement in Response to Violation is a 90-day incarceration period with intensive behavior modification for those who have committed technical violations of supervision.
