The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Ronnie “Lane” Huneycutt as warden at the Avery-Mitchell Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine. Huneycutt, 50, had been the associate warden at Caldwell Correctional Center in Lenoir since 2015.
“Warden Huneycutt is a terrific addition to our team of wardens,” said Todd Ishee, Commissioner of Prisons. “He is a professional with more than 20 years of experience, in-depth knowledge of prison operations, and he has excellent organizational skills and leadership qualities.”

Offender Christopher Watson (#0876848) died Tuesday evening at Scotland Correctional Institution after an apparent suicide. He was found unresponsive in his cell at 7:40 p.m. Prison medical staff and local paramedics responded and performed life-saving measures in attempts to resuscitate the offender.
Watson was pronounced dead at 8:23 p.m. by the county medical examiner’s office.
DPS officials and local law enforcement are investigating the incident.
Following an ALE investigation, a Fayetteville restaurant’s ABC permits have been suspended due to a history of violence and a recent shooting which left three hospitalized.
Early on July 18, 2020, ALE special agents and Fayetteville police officers responded to Jamaican Vibez to find numerous gunshot victims and more than 60 spent shell casings in the parking lot. Authorities discovered the shooting stemmed from a physical confrontation inside the bar.

He was last seen wearing blue hospital-style scrubs and may have gotten into a 2015 white Chevrolet Silverado truck which may have an electric company logo on the side and a license plate that reads FC9096.

In anticipation of the July Fourth holiday weekend, the State Highway Patrol is encouraging motorists to drive responsibly when traveling to their intended destinations.
The State Highway Patrol is requesting assistance from the public in locating a hit-and-run vehicle responsible for the death of a pedestrian in Cumberland County. On Thursday, May 21, troopers were called to NC 87 near Sand Hill Rd where they located Timothy Wayne Slade, 51, of Hope Mills. Investigators determined Mr. Slade was walking northbound on NC 87 in the roadway when he was struck from behind by a vehicle traveling in the same direction.
