North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) and NC Division of Emergency Management hosted remote "virtual" cyber training for state, local and tribal government officials on May, 13 and 15, 2020.
The more than 100 cyber experts from 61 different organizations or government agencies such as community colleges, law enforcement agencies, and county information technology specialists shared best practices during the two online sessions keeping critical relationships current and skills sharp.
Governor Roy Cooper has proclaimed May 4-10 as Correctional Officers and Correctional Employees Week in North Carolina, to recognize the important public service provided by employees in the state’s prison system.
“Correctional officers, medical staff, programs staff, case managers and maintenance crews work tirelessly in our prisons, in challenging and often dangerous situations,” said Gov. Cooper. “To protect our communities, these state employees provide security, programs and care, while preparing people to reenter their communities.”
HOOKERTON--An offender died after being attacked by another offender during an altercation at Maury Correctional Institution late this afternoon.
Offender Charles Rogers, 75, #0350031, was stabbed with a homemade weapon around 4:37 p.m. Thursday in one of the prison’s housing units. After facility medical personnel performed life-saving procedures on the scene, Rogers was pronounced dead at 4:46 p.m.
MEDIA ADVISORY: Governor’s Crime Commission Meets Thursday in Raleigh
Authorities have identified the state trooper and suspect involved in Monday afternoon’s shooting in Robeson County. During the course of a roadside safety inspection of a commercial motor vehicle, a trooper was approached by an uninvolved armed individual. The individual, who was armed with a knife, advanced towards the member who then discharged his firearm after verbal commands were ignored.
The involved individual, identified as Mr. Justin Lee Workman, 29, of Wilmington, was injured as a result of the incident.
On Monday, January 27, at approximately 5:11 pm, a member of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol was involved in a shooting in Robeson County. During the course of a roadside safety inspection of a commercial motor vehicle, the trooper was approached from an uninvolved armed individual. The member discharged his firearm after his verbal commands toward the armed individual to stop were ignored.
The Governor's Crime Commission will meet Thursday December 5 at 9 a.m. at the commission offices at 1201 Front Street in Raleigh.

The State Highway Patrol honored the actions of several sworn and civilian members today during an awards ceremony held at the National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in Raleigh.
The venue began with an invocation provided by SHP Chaplain Phillip Bland. Following the invocation, Colonel Glenn M. McNeill, Jr., addressed the award recipients, praising their heroic efforts while ensuring public safety.
