The first air conditioning project is complete in a long-term process to cool all housing areas in the North Carolina prison system, and hundreds more beds are on schedule to be air-conditioned by the end of July.
Tyrrell Prison Work Farm offender Michael F. Crumbley (#0094464) has died from injuries sustained as a result of an assault by other offenders on June 9. Crumbley was pronounced deceased today at 1:33 a.m. at an outside medical facility.

UPDATE: Members of a prison emergency response team captured Stephon J. Easterling at 6:34 p.m., roughly eight hours after he walked off an off-prison job. He was picked up on Leak Street in Rockingham. He will be transferred to a higher-custody prison and will face escape charges.
