RALEIGH: Governor Roy Cooper has proclaimed March 6-12 as Severe Weather Preparedness Week and is urging North Carolinians to prepare for severe weather that’s common during spring months.
Following an undercover investigation, ALE and the Oakboro Police Department arrested a tobacco store owner for numerous felony and misdemeanor drug charges.
The joint operation stemmed from community complaints of illegal THC products being sold out of Oakboro Tobacco and Vape, located at 214 Alonzo Dr. The community complaints emphasized the drastic physical reactions caused by the products and concerns for their potential harmful effects.
The Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has named Darrin McNeill the new director of Pitt Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Greenville. McNeill, a former correctional officer for 18 years, began his new duties on Feb. 21.
He comes to the Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention from Serenity Therapeutic Services of Raeford, a private mental health agency working with adults with developmental disabilities, where he was the director.

The North Carolina prison system has safely returned around 220 minimum custody offenders who had been evacuated Monday night/Tuesday morning from the Forsyth Correctional Center in Winston-Salem due to a fire at a nearby plant.
In the meantime, they were housed at the Alexander Correctional Center in Taylorsville, around 60 miles away.
