The federally supported Community Vaccination Center at Four Seasons Town Centre has closed after providing 143,659 vaccinations to people across North Carolina. 
An offender participating in Extending the Limits of Confinement (ELC) who absconded from his approved residence in Wilson earlier this month has been apprehended. McLelland Locklear Jr. (#0755307) was serving an active sentence for Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance. He had a projected release date of Sept. 5, 2021. He now faces escape charges.

The State of North Carolina and FEMA have approved $1,532,882 to reimburse the North Carolina Department of Transportation for road system repairs from Hurricane Florence damage in 2018. Funding from FEMA’s Public Assistance program covers repair of roads, embankments and culverts that were washed out in Columbus County by the storm’s fast-moving floodwaters. FEMA’s share for the project is $1,149,662 and the state’s share is $383,220. 
Following an ALE investigation, a Burlington night club’s ABC permits have been summarily suspended after a history of violence and a recent stabbing.   On Sunday, May 9, 2021, officers with the Burlington Police Department responded to a call for shots fired at Royal, a private bar off of Corporation Drive in Burlington. Upon arrival, officers discovered there had not been a shooting, but a patron had been beaten and stabbed. The patron was transported to the hospital.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Mandy K. Cohen, M.D. shared an update on the state’s COVID-19 progress. Throughout the pandemic, state officials have taken a data-driven approach and have been guided by the science in making decisions. Following yesterday’s guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that fully vaccinated individuals can safely do most activities without wearing a mask or the need to social distance from others, the state will remove its indoor mask mandate for most settings.

A Caledonia Correctional Institution offender with pre-existing medical conditions, who tested positive for COVID-19, has died at a hospital. “We are working hard in our ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 in our prisons. The health and safety of the staff and the offenders is our top priority,” said Todd Ishee, Commissioner of Prisons. “We strongly encourage all offenders to elect to be vaccinated. It’s very important.” The offender tested positive for COVID-19 on March 21. He was hospitalized on March 26. His condition worsened, and he died on May 8.
