An offender participating in Extending the Limits of Confinement (ELC) who absconded from his approved residence in Nash County last month has been apprehended. Israel Jones (#1548258) was serving active sentences for Felony Breaking and Entering and Felony Larceny after Breaking and Entering. He had a projected release date of July 14, 2021. He now faces escape charges.

An offender participating in Extending the Limits of Confinement (ELC) who absconded from his approved residence in Durham County last month has been apprehended. Tavaris Edwards (#0701603) was serving active sentences for Habitual Felon and Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance.  He had a projected release date of July 27, 2021. He now faces escape charges.

An offender participating in Extending the Limits of Confinement (ELC) who absconded from her approved residence in Cabarrus County last month has been apprehended. Tasha Rutledge (#0913892) was serving active sentences for Possession Schedule I controlled substance, Prostitution, Identity Fraud, Felonious Larceny, Obtaining Property by False Pretense and two counts of Driving while License Revoked. She had a projected release date of Oct. 7, 2021. She now faces escape charges. 

Officials with the Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice have promoted Robin Griffin to Judicial District Manager for Division 3, District 22, effective Aug. 2, 2021. In this position, Griffin will oversee Community Corrections operations within Judicial District 22, which includes Alexander, Davidson, Davie and Iredell counties.

In recognition of the important public service provided by the state’s probation/parole officers, Gov. Roy Cooper has proclaimed July 18-24, 2021, as Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Officers’ Week in North Carolina.

The State of North Carolina and FEMA have approved a hazard mitigation project grant of $1,610,260 to improve disaster resilience in Robeson County. The grant will be used to acquire and remove ten residential properties that were damaged by flooding from Hurricane Florence in 2018 and are at high risk of repeat flooding from future storms. 

After a long history of disturbances, drug violations and numerous calls to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, a Mooresville neighborhood will soon see long-awaited changes. On July 16, 2021, Superior Court Judge Joseph Crosswhite signed a consent judgment for a Chapter 19 Nuisance Abatement action against Andrew Kovalchik, the property owner of 311 Elysian Drive, Mooresville.

Billy Champion (#0489438) was serving active sentences for Habitual Felon and Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance.  He had a projected release date of Oct. 7, 2021. He now faces escape charges.

The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Jamel James as the new warden of the Franklin Correctional Center in Bunn. James had been the associate warden for custody and operations at Wake Correctional Center in Raleigh since 2017.

An offender participating in Extending the Limits of Confinement (ELC) who absconded from his approved residence in Durham County last month has been apprehended. James Futrell (#0138839) was serving active sentences for Receiving a Stolen Vehicle and two counts of Misdemeanor Larceny.  He had a projected release date of Aug. 30, 2021.
