On July 16, 2021, Superior Court Judge Joseph Crosswhite signed a consent judgment for a Chapter 19 Nuisance Abatement action against Andrew Kovalchik, the property owner of 311 Elysian Drive, Mooresville.
An offender participating in Extending the Limits of Confinement (ELC) who absconded from his approved residence in Wake County last month has been apprehended. Billy Champion (#0489438) was serving active sentences for Habitual Felon and Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance.  He had a projected release date of Oct. 7, 2021. He now faces escape charges.
The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Jamel James as the new warden of the Franklin Correctional Center in Bunn. James had been the associate warden for custody and operations at Wake Correctional Center in Raleigh since 2017.
An offender participating in Extending the Limits of Confinement (ELC) who absconded from his approved residence in Durham County last month has been apprehended. James Futrell (#0138839) was serving active sentences for Receiving a Stolen Vehicle and two counts of Misdemeanor Larceny.  He had a projected release date of Aug. 30, 2021.
An offender participating in Extending the Limits of Confinement (ELC) who absconded from his approved residence in Buncombe County last month has been apprehended. Ricky Hardy (#0166807) was serving active sentences for Felony Breaking and Entering and Felony Larceny after Breaking and Entering. He had a projected release date of Sept. 19, 2021.
A Taylorsville convenience store clerk has been criminally charged following an underage vehicle crash. On Tuesday, June 22, 2021, North Carolina State Highway Patrol contacted ALE after a single-vehicle collision in Taylorsville, NC. The driver and passenger were both underage and had consumed alcoholic beverages prior to the crash.
Public Safety Secretary Erik A. Hooks today announced his plans to retire from state service on August 1. Governor Roy Cooper appointed Hooks on January 5, 2017, to serve as Secretary of the Department of Public Safety and as the State Homeland Security Advisor.  Secretary Hooks has more than 30 years of law enforcement and public safety experience. He served 27 years with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation in various leadership capacities, rising to the rank of Assistant Director in 2005 before taking on the role of Public Safety Secretary.
As traffic is expected to increase this July Fourth weekend, so will the State Highway Patrol’s focus on traffic safety. The AAA organization estimates that more than 43 million travelers will take to the roadways this holiday weekend, which is a record number for July Fourth travel.

Kimberly Jones (#0217004) was serving active sentences for Larceny over $1,000 and Felony Breaking and Entering. She had a projected release date of Oct. 7, 2021.
