Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced that Casandra Skinner Hoekstra will serve as Interim Secretary for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NCDPS).

“Casandra is a talented leader who has dedicated her career to keeping the people of North Carolina safe,” Governor Cooper said. “Her legal background and experience within the Department of Public Safety have prepared her to serve in this role, and I’m grateful she agreed to step up.”
The Department of Public Safety will host hiring events on Friday, July 30, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the three state prisons in Raleigh: Central Prison, N.C. Correctional Institution for Women and Wake Correctional Center.
Officials with the Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice have promoted Robin Griffin to Judicial District Manager for Division 3, District 22, effective Aug. 2, 2021.

In this position, Griffin will oversee Community Corrections operations within Judicial District 22, which includes Alexander, Davidson, Davie and Iredell counties.

The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Joseph Payne as director of the Edgecombe Youth Development Center in Rocky Mount. He replaces the recently retired Jameka Jackson.
The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Stephen Jacobs as the new warden of Tabor Correctional Institution in Tabor City.

Jacobs, 53, had been the warden at Lumberton Correctional Institution in Lumberton since 2020.
Governor Roy Cooper has proclaimed May 2-8 as Correctional Officers and Correctional Employees Week in North Carolina, in recognition of the essential public service provided by employees in the state’s prison system. 
Secretary Erik A. Hooks has announced the promotion of Jane Ammons Gilchrist to Chief of Staff for the department. In this position, Chief Gilchrist will be taking on an expanded role in helping Secretary Hooks lead the department.
RALEIGH — Correction Enterprises’ printing plant today won two quality awards for publications printed on behalf of fellow state agencies.
Governor Roy Cooper has mobilized approximately 550 North Carolina National Guardsmen to assist with upcoming security needs in Washington, DC and North Carolina. The Governor mobilized approximately 350 National Guard personnel for duty here in North Carolina, beginning this weekend to support state and local authorities and protect the well-being of residents, property, and the right to peacefully assemble and protest.
