The State of North Carolina and FEMA are announcing more than $18.8 million to reimburse expenses to restore hurricane- and tropical storm-related beach damage.
The funds include reimbursing the replacement of beach sand in the Town of Topsail Beach. Storm surges from Hurricane Florence damaged the coastal community’s beach.
The town will replenish more than 939,000 cubic yards of sand damaged during Hurricane Florence. The sand equals more than nine times the amount of concrete in Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium.

Governor Roy Cooper has declared Dec. 1 - 7 as Winter Weather Preparedness Week and is encouraging North Carolinians to plan and prepare now, before potentially dangerous winter weather arrives.
“Now is the time to make a plan so that you and your family are ready when winter weather arrives,” said Governor Cooper.

FEMA and the state of North Carolina are announcing nearly $1.3 million to reimburse Brunswick County for public safety activities following Hurricane Florence.
FEMA previously approved more than $12.5 million for Brunswick County Hurricane Florence-related expenses. This funding brings the total to more than $13.8 million.

Offender Joshua A. Biby (#0636287) died this morning at Neuse Correctional Institution in an apparent suicide.
He was found unresponsive in his cell around 6:10 a.m. Local EMS responded and prison medical staff worked to resuscitate the offender, who was pronounced dead at the facility at 6:37 a.m.
Local law enforcement was notified and is conducting an investigation. The Department of Public Safety is cooperating fully in the investigation.
Escaped inmate Robert Terrell (#0579121) was arrested at about 2:20 a.m. Tuesday by Durham Police, assisted by correctional officers from the NC Department of Public Safety. He was stopped at Cornwallis Road and South Roxboro Street in Durham, driving a car stolen from his mother.
Terrell had left from his work release assignment in Durham Monday evening. He will face escape charges for escape and larceny of a vehicle.
