The State of North Carolina and FEMA have approved more than $7.8 million to reimburse a City of Fayetteville cemetery following Hurricane Florence-related damage.
The grant reimburses the city to stabilize a riverbank at Cross Creek Cemetery to reduce potential flood damage. It also covers relocating 250 final resting places.
Today, Governor Roy Cooper formalized the state’s ongoing effort to monitor, prepare for and respond to the 2019 novel coronavirus (CoVID-19) with a state Novel Coronavirus Task Force. The task force will continue to work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and coordinate across state agencies to protect the health and wellbeing of North Carolinians.
A minimum custody offender who went missing from his job assignment on Feb. 3 was captured this morning in Pennsylvania.
Caldwell Correctional Center offender Kevin B. Adams (#1589300) was taken into custody without incident around 11:15 a.m. by the Pennsylvania State Police, who found him in Bedford, which is in Central Pennsylvania, while checking out a tip on his whereabouts.
The state of North Carolina and FEMA have approved an additional $1.6 million to reimburse the City of Wilmington for debris removal costs following Hurricane Florence.
As the state begins to clean up from yesterday’s strong storms, heavy winds today are toppling trees and caused power outage numbers to climb quickly across the state this morning. Governor Roy Cooper authorized transportation waivers to allow utility companies to bring repair crews from out of state and get faster access to communities without power.
“Though the worst of the rain is over, flooded roads and downed trees remain hazards,” Gov. Cooper said. “All of us need to help local emergency responders by avoiding flooded roads and downed power lines.”
As a line of strong storms moves across the state today, many areas of North Carolina are experiencing dangerous weather conditions, including heavy rains, flooding and tornadoes. These storms will move east toward the coast this afternoon and evening.
“Everyone should remain alert to rapidly changing weather conditions and have a way to receive weather alerts from the National Weather Service,” said Governor Cooper. “Using a NOAA weather radio, or a smartphone app that provides emergency weather alerts for your location is a good way to stay informed.”

State correctional and local law enforcement officers are seeking Caldwell Correctional Center minimum custody offender Kevin B. Adams (#1589300), who was reported missing from his work release assignment this afternoon.
The State of North Carolina and FEMA have approved more than $5.5 million to reimburse New Hanover County for costs related to Hurricane Florence.
Funds reimburse expenses to operate four emergency operations centers that supported response efforts in New Hanover County. The reimbursement also covers costs for five shelters that accommodated displaced hurricane survivors.
Costs for this project cover expenses from Sept. 7, 2018 through Sept. 29, 2018.
